HERDSMEN FARMERS CLASH: GOVT MAPPING OUT AN ACTION PLAN TO END THE CLASH – DESTINY YOUNG

BY: Destiny Young

I got an SMS from a very good friend of mine who raised his apprehension about the activities of Fulani herdsmen as it regards the killing of farmers in Benue State. My friend sought my opinion on the matter and questioned why I have not made a comment about it on my timeline.

The fact that I have not made a public statement on this dastardly act does not mean I have not expressed my disapproval of it. In short, just yesterday, after I read Inibehe Effiong’s concern about the herdsmen killing of farmers and the seeming President Buhari’s silence over the matter, I channeled my concern to the presidency through a specific medium that I normally do since I am connected to the presidency through a certain channel.

I am a strong supporter of Mr President. If a son wants to caution his father, he will not drag the father to the market square and caution him, he will respectfully draw the father’s attention to his grudge in a closet.

Let me now make my comment:

The present Government is taking a decisive and holistic approach to solving this monstrous enemy, once and for all. Herdsmen farmers clash had long existed, but not in this magnitude except for the enactment of anti-grazing law by Benue State govt which provoked reaction by the herdsmen to draw government’s attention to their plights. I have read a comment by the leader of the Herdsmen, that the herdsmen had always complained that government have been treating them as non-Nigerians and that no policy have been put in place to carter for their plights. Looking at it from the humane angle, I sometimes pity these people when I see them roaming the bush in my place. Naturally, I felt some sense of pity about their living condition. But then, this is not a sanction for them to take up arms against innocent Nigerians, and this is where I am very upset with the method for which they vent their anger.

I am not speaking for Mr President and or the Presidency but…

Just the like severity of attacks by Boko Haram just after this government assumes power, president Buhari took a decisive action which saw our military forces upping the game. Today, we can conveniently beat our chest that Boko Haram attacks have been technically reduced (though not completely exterminated – even the United States have not completely defeated terrorism, reason why it budgets billions of dollars yearly for anti-terrorism fight).

Previously, there used to be Boko Haram attacks every Christmas period. Today, that has changed. This herdsmen/Fulani clash is a temporary setback and will fade away.

From the response I got, the Federal Government is taking a very decisive and proactive action plan towards putting an end to such clash once and for all.

Thank you.
