Zambia qualifies for COSAFA Cup Semis

The Chipolopolo of Zambia has qualified for the semi-finals of this year’s COSAFA Cup after beating Botswana 2-1 in Saturday’s quarter-final in Rustenburg, South Africa.

Both Zambia and Botswana did not take part in the group stage as they kicked off their campaign from the quarter-finals.

Brian Mwila put Zambia 1-0 ahead in the 10th minute and Zambia went 2-0 up in the 70th following an own goal by Moreetsi Mosimanyana.

Botswana had a chance to reduce the deficit but Thabang Sesinyi missed a 73rd minute penalty.

In the 79th minute, Kabelo Seakanya scored for Botswana to bring the score to 2-1.

With time fast running out, Botswana threw everybody forward for the equaliser but Zambia held on to secure the win.

The Super Eagles defeated Zambia 2-1 in their 2018 World Cup qualifier last year in Ndola.

Super Eagles’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying foes, Bafana Bafana of South Africa, who are the hosts of this year’s COSAFA Cup and who also did not play in the group stage, will take on Tanzania in another quarter-final clash on Sunday.

Seychelles, who will host the Super Eagles on match day two of the 2019 AFCON qualifier, crashed out in the group stage after three straight losses.
