NIGER STATE 2018 BUDGET: THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT

*Niger State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello today presented the 2018 budget of N128,010,602,977.00 to the State House of Assembly.

*The budget, christened ,’the People’s Budget’, according to the Governor, is informed by the collective agitation and responsiveness to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

*The budget is to be financed through the traditional Statutory Allocation, Value Added Tax (VAT), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Capital Receipts from bonds and grants, Paris Club Refund and Refund from Pension Administrators.

*The Recurrent Expenditure stands at N52,151,626,082.00 while the Capital Expenditure is projected at N75,858,976,895.00.

*The 2018 budget shows a 16.62 per cent (or N19,996Billion) increase over that of last year.

*Over N9.844Billion is earmarked for General Administration, N44.232Billion is allocated to Economic Sector while N20.471Billion went to the Social Sector.

SOME OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:-

ON AGRICULTURE

*Clearing of 200 Hectares of land under the Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme.
*Increasing the number of Agricultural Equipment Hiring Centers across the state to 15.
*Rehabilitation of Irrigation Schemes in the state.
*Upgrading of Tegina, Kuta, Nasko and Bida farm institutes.

ON EDUCATION

*Continuation of Whole Schools Development Approach (WSDA) across the state.
*Completion of other Teachers Development Institutes at Agaie and Nassarawa-Kainji.
*Tertiary institutions to receive attention to meet accreditation requirements.
*Renovation of Science and Technical schools and provision of equipments.
*The Education sector has a combined allocation of N13.377Billion.

ON HEALTH

*100 Primary Healthcare facilities will be renovated across the state.
*Completion of ongoing renovation at Minna, Suleija and Kontagora General Hospitals.
*Health Teaching Institutions to be given attention to meet accreditation requirements.
*Government to implement State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme for the Civil Servants.

ON COMMERCE AND INVESTMENT

*N1Billion proposed for the CBN/SMEs Entrepreneurship Credit Scheme.
*Construction of 50units 9SME factories at New Bussa, Suleija and Mokwa.
*Completion of Suleija and Mariga International Markets.
*Provision of infrastructural facilities at Babanna International Market.
*Exploring and harnessing of all solid minerals development and oil exploration activities.

ON INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT

*Continuation of construction, repairs and rehabilitation of both state and federal roads.
*Completion of all ongoing road projects.
*N1.9Billion is proposed for the rehabilitation of township roads in Minna.
*Rehabilitation of 17 other township roads across the state.

ON ENERGY

*N900Million is earmarked for the electrification of various communities.
*Provision of Transformers and upgrading of 11KVA to 33KVA lines as well as installation of streetlights in urban towns.

ON WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION

*N3.725Billion is earmarked for the rehabilitation of Kontagora Dam.
*Rehabilitation of Biwater Schemes at Dabban, Matandi, Ibeto, Edozhigi, Salka and Auna.
*Feasibility studies to be commissioned on the construction of new Dam site in Minna.
*Drilling and rehabilitation of 100 and 200 Hand-pump Boreholes respectively across the state.

ON LAW AND JUSTICE

*N1.310Billion has been proposed for the various activities of the Judicial Arm.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION

*Rehabilitation of both old and new State Secretariat.
*Purchase of equipment for Government Printing Press.
*Renovation of offices and provision of office equipment/furniture for workers.
*Renovation of Liaison Offices at Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja.
*The sector has a proposed allocation of N9.844Billion.
