Former Surveyor General of Akwa Ibom State Bags Fellow of Geoinformation Society of Nigeria (GEOSON)

It was all encomium for Mr. Okokon Essien, former Surveyor General of Akwa Ibom State (and Retired Permanent Secretary), as he was honoured as fellow of the Geoinformation Society of Nigeria at the International Conference Centre, National Space Research & Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja on Tuesday, 14th November 2017.

 

Clad in the traditional Akwa Ibom attire adorned with National symbols, the conference hall was intermittently interrupted by applause as the resume’ of Mr Essien was being read. It was a citation beyond boundaries as his experience and contributions to the profession and geoinformation management nationwide was acknowledged as fact.

 

Mr Essien’s strings of distinctions in academic excellence from primary school to later levels as well as his other activities were enumerated to the delight of the audience.

 

Others similarly honoured were, the Minister of State for Works and Housing -Suleiman Hassan, the Director General of NASRDA-Professor Seidu Mohammed, Senator (Professor) Robert Borofice – Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Professor Isi Ikhuonia – Past President National Cartographic Association, Professor Peter Nwilo – Immediate Past Surveyor General of the Federation, Professor Joseph Akinyede of FUT, Akure and Dr Amina Usman of RESLARC Group.

The evening’s event was rounded up with a gala night at the same venue.
