Former House of Reps Member Dismisses Story of Defection, Says APC in A’Ibom State Lacks Inspiring Leadership
A former House of Representatives member, who represented Oron Federal Constituency from 2011 to 2015, Hon Robinson Uwak, has lashed out at the Akwa Ibom state owned radio and television, AKBC Radio and AKBC TV, for what he described as “provocative broadcast” of his purported defection to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP from the All Progressive Congress, APC. In his reaction, the former Reps member said he had at no time even contemplated any such move and wondered where the state government media stations got their “vexatious story” from.
Uwak said he remains a chieftain of the APC and had no interest, or admiration for any other party, including the PDP. He added that the state government and the party in government in the state should rather “show desperation in providing infrastructure and improving the welfare of the people rather than showing desperation in getting people to defect to their ailing party, the PDP”.
He maintained that the beginning of his politics is the welfare and wellbeing of his Oro people. He assured that whatever political moves he makes must reflect the interest of his people. On his political future, the former lawmaker said, “I am prepared to put my name on the ballot to ensure that Oro is guaranteed a voice come 2019”.
On how he sees his party, the APC in Oro nation, Uwak said, “All politics for me is primarily local. APC is the vehicle that I introduced into Oro nation in 2015 to combat the reckless injustice handed down to my people and that vehicle still stands strong in Oro nation. I have never seen APC or PDP as a political party to be used to achieve personal gains or settle political scores, rather these two parties are meant to be vehicles to bring development and advance the welfare and happiness of my people. I want to use this opportunity to call on all Oro sons and daughters to unite ahead of 2019 polls irrespective of party affiliations to ensure that we use political platforms only for the benefit of Oro nation.”
“Now coming to the spate of defections to PDP in Akwa Ibom state, I make bold to say that this is as a result of the absence of an inspiring or motivational leadership within the APC. The leadership of the party has failed to reward hardwork, sacrifice and loyalty. It is my hope that we can turn our fortunes around before the 2019 polls,” the former Reps member said.
