The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere on Saturday led friends of the family of the late Akwa Ibom State former First Lady, Obonganwan Imo Isemin, within the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on a condolence visit to the bereaved family over the death of their matriarch.

The NDDC boss who conveyed the condolences of the entire Akwa Ibom State APC family to the bereaved family, expressed shock and sadness over the demise of the former Governor’s wife.

“The death of your mother is a big loss to all of us. We’re devastated. We’re very sad. The role she played in bringing up SMEs in Akwa Ibom State, for me was the greatest service she rendered to the state apart from being First Lady of Akwa Ibom”.

“We feel and share in your pain and I pray God to give you the strength and fortitude to bear the loss”, he said.

Also speaking, the APC leader in the state and Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Mr Umana Umana said he was saddened at the demise of the ex-First Lady.

“This is a personal loss for me, the state, the party and country. This is a monumental loss. She was very industrious, very principled.

“I heard about her first through my friends and colleagues who worked under her in the bank before I eventually met her when her husband became Governor of the state and her the First Lady. She was a very outstanding banker, she was exemplary. We must learn from her legacies”.

Mr Umana said that the visit was not yet a formal condolence visit by the party, but as friends of the Isemins, it was pertinent to use the state’s 30th anniversary to visit and commensurate with the family ahead of the official condolence visit of the party to be led by the State Party Chairman, Dr Amadu Attai.

” I want to condole you and assure you that in this moment of grief you’re not alone”, he assured.

Other party chieftains who spoke were Otuekong Sunny Jackson Udoh and Obong Okokon Etuk.

Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Mr Ubong Isemin thanked the party chieftains and friends of the former First family for the visit, noting with delight that the solidarity and support so far received will go a long way to strengthening the family in their moment of grief, promising that as children of the deceased first family, they will strive to keep the legacies their late mother left behind.
